Chiefly letters and telegrams of condolence to Hardin's wife Nola upon his death on May 19, 1922. Correspondence from Church of Christ and Christian Church ministers, business and professional men, officers of religious organizations, friends, relatives, and the President of Milligan College, H.J. Derthick, all reflect Hardin's devotion to the Christian Church in Johnson City, Tenn., and to Milligan College. An unsigned letter in 1922 concerns Derthick's work at the College and the effect of Hardin's death on it. Also includes a resolution and clipping about Hardin's death.

The first congregation of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in New Mexico was organzied by John C. Hay, in Roswell, in August 1893. Both the First Christian Church in Albuquerque and the Carlsbad church were established in 1910. A congregation at Portales was also organized in 1910.
